RESCHEDULED: Region 1 Horseback Championship/Accompanying Stakes


REGION 1 
AMATEUR HORSEBACK
 CHAMPIONSHIP/
ACCOMPANYING 
STAKES SET 
FOR MAY 24-27


EAST WINDSOR, Conn. -- The Region 1 Amateur Horseback Championship and accompanying Open stakes will be held Memorial Day weekend at Flaherty Field Trial Area. 

Following the cancellation by Spruce Brook Field Trial Club of its annual spring trial usually held on Memorial Day weekend, the New England Futurity and ANEFTC were able to procure the date for the Region 1 championship and Open stakes. The Futurity and ANEFTC will be hosting all events that weekend.

Many thanks go out to Don Gustafson, Spruce Brook president; and Tom Tracy and Alene LeVasseur, field trial chairmen, for their help in making this a smooth transition.

Open stakes will kick off the weekend starting Friday, May 24, at 8 a.m.

Stakes are:
 
Open Puppy $40

Open Derby $60
Open Restricted Shooting Dog $60
Open Shooting Dog $60

Purse is 50% after $5 grounds fee.

Judges: TBA

The REGION 1 AMATEUR HORSEBACK SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP will begin at the conclusion of the Open stakes, but not earlier than noon on Saturday, May 25. 

Championship entry fee: $100

Dogs need an AFTCA Win Certificate in a derby or shooting dog stake to qualify.

Single course, one-hour heats on liberated quail, native woodcock and pheasants.

Championship judges are Bill Bonnetti of Plymouth, Mass., and John Malone of Bolton, Conn.
