Conn. Pointer Wins U.S. Complete Futurity

CARRINGTON, N.C. -- Hog Hill Katie, a pointer female owned and trained by Tim Cavanaugh of East Hampton, Conn., was named winner of the U.S. Complete Futurity on March 1, 2014. Katie was handled to her win by Garry Malzone. 

Katie, by Southbound Strech, owned by John Fino of Mendon, Mass., and out of Garry Malzone's Indian Creek Sugar, ran in the 12th brace, defeating a field of 27 pointers and setters.

Second place winner was Indian Creek Spanish Fly, owned by Angelo Markopoulos of Astoria, N.Y., and handled by Malzone; third, Bud of Piney Woods, owned by Rich Warters, handled by Eric Russell; fourth, Miss Pennstar, owned and handled by Don Terrell.

Judges were Karen Conroy and Dennis Snyder. Reporter was Margaret Drew.


DATE CHANGE -- Woodcock Championship Kicks Off 2014 R.I. Field Trial Season


[The Southern New England Woodcock Championship and Joel Collier Derby Classic is postponed one week due to heavy snow cover at Arcadia Managment Area.

The Derby has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 27, followed by the Championship on Friday, March 28. 

Drawing will be held Tuesday, March 25.]

(UPDATED) EXETER, RI -- South County Field Trial Club will kick off the 2014 spring field trial season in Rhode Island with the Southern New England Woodcock Championship, starting Friday, March 28, 2014, at 7 a.m. at Arcadia Management Area. The championship will be preceded by the Joel Collier Derby Classic, starting Thursday, March 27, at 8 a.m.

Judges for the Derby Classic are Russ Ogilvie of Jefferson, Maine, and John Malone of Bolton, Conn.

The Woodcock Championship, which is a Grand National Invitational and Purina Award points trial, will be judged by Steve Forrest of Hampden, Maine, and Bob Little of Fredricton, New Brunswick.

A social event will be held Saturday night, sponsored by last year's winner, Claudia McNamee, owner of Richfield Silver Lining, handled by John Stolgitis.
