SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND
WOODCOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Sponsored by South County Field Trial Club
and co-hosted by Rhode Island Grouse Dog Club

March 17, 2011 to conclusion

That's right, folks. Spring may actually be right around the corner as New England opens its field trial season in just a few weeks in Rhode Island with the annual Southern New England Woodcock Championship.

Hopefully, the snow will be well on its way to being melted and dogs will be in shape to run.

The Joel Collier (at right) Derby Classic kicks off the four-day championship weekend on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 8 a.m., with half-hour stakes.

The Woodcock Championship follows on Friday, March 18, 2011, at 7 a.m., with one-hour stakes.

All stakes are walking. And both will be held at Arcadia Management Area, Route 165, Exeter, RI.

Entry fee for the Woodcock Championship is $125. It is a Grand National Invitational and Purina Award Points Trial. Guaranteed purse is $1,000 (if 40 or more entries); $1,500 split 70-30 if runnerup is named.

Judges are Roger McPherson of Shippenville, PA, and Mike Groy of Pennsylvania.

Note: No entered dogs or handlers are allowed to run on Championship courses after March 1. A social event will be held on Saturday night, March 19, sponsored by last year's winner, Ch. Chasehill Molly.
