Flaherty Field Trial Area Summer Meeting/Work Party/Incident Report

The following is a letter from Flaherty president Rich Murphy regarding the upcoming summer meeting and, more importantly, an incident that occurred in April at the field trial area that may eventually result in a change in the way trialers are allowed to use the property.

Dear Delegate and Friends of Flaherty,

The Flaherty summer meeting and work party is scheduled for 9:00 A.M June 26, 2010 at the clubhouse and we have some very serious issues to discuss in regards to the Colman Farms Condo Association. We had an incident back on April 23 at the C.V.V.C trial when one of the Colman Farms Residents came onto the grounds at 6:15 A.M. and tried to get into an altercation with a few of the trial participants. When that failed he then proceeded to drive through the parking lot yelling and blowing his horn at people. We reported it to the State and Law enforcement and the matter is currently under investigation, but their biggest complaint is the barking dogs early in the morning and late at night.

When it was one person acting alone I wasn't really that concerned about it, but it now appears that the Condo Association is gaining strength and support and we believe that it is their ultimate goal to have the Flaherty Association permanently shut down as soon as possible. With the budget crisis that the State of Connecticut is currently facing and with a newly appointed D.E.P. Commissioner and Deputy that we aren't scheduled to meet with until the third week in July I believe that the Association is in a very vulnerable position.

We have been working closely with the State D.E.P. on this issue because it is State owned property but I believe that the we as an Association must have a plan of our own in place and ready to go if the need arises. I also believe that we are facing a potential threat of losing our overnight camping privileges and having the grounds only available from sunrise to sunset like some of the other State areas.

The official call to the summer meeting will be sent out in the next few weeks but because of the seriousness of the situation and because the summer meeting is still five weeks away, I am giving you advance notice that this will be a mandatory meeting by all the member clubs of the Association. Please make any necessary arrangements to have you club represented at this meeting and please feel free to invite any and all members of your club as this will effect everyone that uses the Flaherty grounds.

Member Clubs failing to send representation to the summer meeting and work party will be fined $75.00 per Article 15.6. A of the Flaherty By Laws.

We have a lot to discuss and i hope to see you on June 26.

Rich Murphy
President Flaherty FTA
