EXETER, RI -- The Arcadia Field Trial Club's annual fall walking field trial, scheduled for this weekend (Sept. 19-20) at Arcadia Management Area, has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The club thanks the few supporters who planned to enter their dogs, but the low number of entries made running the two-day event not feasible.

 TOP DOGS OF 2015

EXETER, R.I. -- Lloyd Murray of Stark, N.H., and his talented Long Gone setters, were the top award-getters at the Top Dog Awards held by the Association of New England Field Club at its annual summer meeting held Sunday, Aug. 9, at Arcadia Management Area. ANEFTC's second vice president, Dick Bembenek, presented the awards. 

Lloyd's young setter female, Long Gone Mersadies, scored a hat-trick, garnering Top Dog Awards as Open Walking Puppy, Amateur Walking Puppy, and Amateur Walking Derby of 2015.

Lloyd's setter male, Long Gone Studley, won honors as top Open Walking Shooting Dog, with newly-elected Hall of Famer Dave Hughes handling.

Erin Stolgitis, of Ashaway R.I., ran a close second in gathering up the awards! This talented young handler won in both Amateur and Open categories!

Great River Kennels has another plaque to hang on its walls as Great River Ice won the top Open Horseback Shooting Dog Award. He was handled by Mike Tracy.

Outstanding dog taxes and club dues are payable at the meeting. Member clubs that are not paid up will NOT be allowed to choose running dates for the 2015-16 field trial season.

NORTHBORO, Mass. -- Brian T. Hays, 60, passed away June 9, 2015 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 34 years, Martha (Seilius) Hays; siblings Barbara Ann Amons of Sandwich; Bonnie Louvier and her husband Philip of Lexington, Va.; Brad Hays and his wife Laura of Blackstone; Barri-Lynne Hays of Marlborough; two aunts and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Marlborough, he was a son of the late Carl W. Hays (2014) and Evelyn (Taber) Hays (1981). Brian was a lifelong resident of Northboro. He graduated from Algonquin Regional H.S., class of 1972, and attended Oregon State University, majoring in forestry engineering.

Recognized as a world class gun dog trainer of the pointing breeds, Brian owned and operated Chokebore Kennels for over 30 years. Brian's hard work, skills and passion were rewarded when his mentor Robert G. Whele bestowed him with custodianship of the world famous Elhew pointer bloodline in 2002. Before his passing, Brian partnered with Brian Breveleri to carry on the Elhew legacy so that future sportsmen may enjoy "a gentleman's shooting dog."

Brian was a life sponsor of the Ruffed Grouse Society, William Harnden Foster Chapter of Worcester. He was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed cooking and travel, taking many trips to England, Ireland, Scotland and Canada. Brian will be remembered as a true country gentleman.
